December Fun

Nothing better to do on a cold winter day than a gingerbread house!

Goofy Side

Serious Side- which took us a LONG time. Very intricate work :) but a blast!!
From start to finish my friend and I designed the entire structure- we think we deserved an architect award for that! :) What a day of baking, constructing and decorating. Next year we're determined to enter our house in this contest.

Christmas Party Cake Just for Fun :)

Had lots of fun with this cake! I really wanted to work with fondant and the sugar crystal snow so I did and it was worth it. I thought it turned out looking pretty classy! I'm falling in love with fondant. Now I just have to work on getting it to stick to my cakes better... hmmmm

Grad Cake #2

This cake was definitely a ton of fun! I was able to go with a less flowery design since this cake was for a boy and I was quite pleased with the result. I'm always trying new ideas and I learned many techniques on this cake that I will most definitely repeat. :) I also learned how to perform surgery on a cake... that was interesting. But, all went well and both cakes did survive. phew! So, here are the pictures before the mortar board cracked into four pieces :-/

And, kudos to the Denlinger clan- a great time was had by all!

Until my next friend celebrates something,

Jill

PS above is a closer, cropped picture of the whole cake. I was having trouble getting blogger to cooperate to get all pictures and comments on one page... arrgh

Aleithia Graduation

Gum paste roses and carnations- I was really happy with the blue shimmer dust!

the final edition- after many hours of work :)

the cupcakes were my favorite- I'm so glad they turned out so cute

One of the talented ALC mom's did a wonderful job with

veggie and fruit trays!!

What a day! I was very stressed out in the morning trying to get my cake together but it all turned out. I still see many areas that need improvement but my first time using gum paste flowers on a cake was a success :) Onto my next challenge...

Clay's Birthday

Clay wanted a sports-themed birthday cake so I picked a Phillies hat (of course) and baseball. I had a lot of fun working with fondant. I even learned a lot despite the stress at times.
Then Clay and his friends had to go out and play some sports of their own... :)

Until next time,

Jill

Wedding Cupcakes

The first two pictures are the cupcakes I made for a friend's wedding this weekend. Her colors were pink and brown- how cute! The third picture is me just fooling around with different ideas. :)
That's all for now,

Fondant and Gum Paste- What FUN!!!

the Calla lilies definitely turned out the best out of all my flowers....

I loved the purple fondant but after one afternoon in full sunlight it turned baby blue!!! Still pretty, but a surprise to me :)

Until next time,

Jill

Dad's 50th Birthday Cake

This cake was for my Dad's surprise 50th birthday party. Doing this large of a cake in total secrecy was a bit difficult, but I managed in the basement. The strawberry filling proved to be a problem too, but after getting the cake cut length-wise (which was the difficult part) things went smoothly. All in all I love doing royal icing flowers- they hold up well. The only thing is that kids want to eat them and they're rather hard... hmmm

More cake pics later!
Blessings,
Jill

My First Basket-Weave Cake!

Well, this being my first post we'll see how this goes.... my goal on this blog is to allow others to see what kind of cakes I do and also to post ideas and decorating tips. Having many creative interests this blog may well turn into a random conglomeration of idea posts ranging from recipes to home decor. :)
For starters, this is the first cake where I used royal icing flowers. I made this cake last fall for my brother's birthday- lots of fun! The color flow acorns are not my favorite but I wanted to try out that technique.

Well, that's all for now! I'll be posting the rest of my cakes soon.

God Bless,

Jill
